What is Reiki?
The Tibetans have practised Reiki for hundreds of years. It is an ancient art of hands on healing.
Rei - is the Universal Life Energy that is the spark in every atom of the Universe. It orders nature and is all knowing.
Ki - (also called "Chi" in Chinese & "Prana" in Sanskrit) is our Vital Life Force. This is the non-physical energy that animates all living things.
Reiki is the coming together of these two energies, a joining together of the Universal and the Personal. Everyone can have the ability to channel Reiki energy. This ability is passed on during a Reiki initiation/attunement and once learned is never lost.
How Does Reiki Work?
The free and balanced flow of Ki is the cause of good health.
Ki flows within the physical body through pathways called meridians and around us in a field of energy called the aura. Ki nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital function.
A full Reiki treatment usually lasts an hour. It differs from massage as the recipient remains fully clothed, it will even work through a plaster cast. It does not require any manipulation of tissue or muscle. The Reiki practitioner simply places his/her hands on different parts of the body, usually beginning at the head.
During a Reiki treatment it is common for the recipient to experience such sensations as warmth flowing from the practitioner's hands and most people report entering a very deep state of relaxation. Those who are familiar with meditation say they enter a deep meditative state, the mind calms the breathing slows down and they experience a feeling of well being.
A one hour session of Reiki is equal to 4 hours sleep, this fact alone makes it one of the most effective natural stress relievers we know of and regular use of Reiki leads to an increase in general vitality and well-being and a sense of inner peace.
We have two levels of reiki. Reiki Level One and Reiki Level Two.
